ABSTRACT

Introduction: During the lockdown caused by COVID-19 in Spain, citizens had to stop performing activities in the usual way, which could have had an impact on mental health. The aim of this study was to determine the contribution of participating in meaningful activitieson mental health in the Spanish population during the COVID-19 lockdown. Method:A cross-sectional online survey was developed and administered, where mental health (General Health Questionnaire), resilience (Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale), participation in meaningful activities (Engage-ment in Meaningful Activities Survey) and socio-demographic data were assessed. A hierarchical-linear-regression was used to identify key correla-tions. Results:The participants (N= 311) reported low mental health (M= 16.12/36) and a lower level of resilience (M = 25.48). The results of the re-gression revealed that 32.6% of the variance of the GHQ was significantly explained by the living space, including an outdoor space, resilience and participation in meaningful activities. The loss of meaningful activities was significantly related to mental health, with a significant contribution when controlling for the other variables (β = -.12). Conclusion:Although experi-mental studies are needed to determine causality, this study highlights the relationship between participation in meaningful activities and mental health during the lockdown.(AU)

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Resilience has been related to mental health during the perinatal period. However, to our knowledge, there are no instruments for measuring resilience that have been validated in this population. The purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of the Resilience Inventory in Mexican pregnant women. A sample of 280 women was evaluated using the Resilience Inventory, Patient Health Questionnaire and a stressful life events questionnaire. The reliability coefficient of the Resilience Inventory was 0.88 for the complete scale. Exploratory factor analysis resulted in a three-factor structure of resilience (personal competence, religiosity and positive attitude) for pregnant women. Concurrent validity was supported by negative correlations with prenatal depressive symptoms and stressful life events. The Resilience Inventory could potentially be a valid reliable measure. It is necessary to continue exploring the role of resilience in the perinatal period and identify the factors that shape it.

ABSTRACT

Permanent or temporary disability is an indicator that increases daily worldwide, it affects people's familiar, social, working, economic and psychological functions. Objective: To determine the rela-tionship between the resilient characteristics and the level of psychosocial risk in people with disabili-ties. Method: The research was quantitative, correlational with non-probability sampling. The sample consisted of 119 individuals with physical disabilities who were occupationally related in 6 depart-ments of Colombia. Two instruments were used: the Resilience Scale of Young and Wagnild adap-ted by Novella (2002), and the Questionnaire of psychosocial risk factors in professional environ-ments, form A and B, established by the Ministry of Social Protection (2010) were applied. Results:An inverse relationship between the resilient factors associated with the level of psychosocial risk was found. The lower the resilience is, the greater level of risk there is in the characteristics of leadership, rewards derived from the relevance to the organization, the work done, and in recognition found and compensation; however, the greater resilience is, the greater is the risk of mental workload demands. Discussion: Employed people with physical disabilities have fewer psychosocial risks in professional environments, considering resilience as a protective factor. To address the lack of research on this sub-ject, it is necessary not only to evaluate the risks of this population, but also to provide information to the relevant organizations about this subject that contributes to produce changes towards inclusion.

ABSTRACT

This paper analyzes the implications of promoting protective resources through family and school in Yucatec Maya migrant students. They operate in conditions of poverty, social exclusion, school violence, unwanted pregnancies and alcohol and tobacco addiction that sometimes lead them to dropout, thus increasing the adverse situation in which they find themselves. Hence the importance of promoting in these students, while they are still in high school, the development of resilient abilities and personal resources whose purpose is to improve their positive adjustment to school and consequently, their own personal and family circumstances.

ABSTRACT

As a structure, the family has suffered from several transformations in its inner dynamic, as well as, in the functions that it carries out in the different social historical contexts. At present, the conception of Family Health together with the contributions that sciences offer is one of the stone bases among the preventive and promotional factors of the Health System. Family Health is defined by W.H.O as the presence of physical and mental health of their members with an adequate integration among them.Familys health is not an adding category, but a process is constant change and providing the promotion and development of each of its member. The family constitutes the essential and first group where the conditions for the development of individual psychological resources of the personality and health have a personal meaning for each one of its members(AU)
